Punjab lifter Lad Singh shattered two National records in men`s 105 kg weight class of the 60th Men and 23rd Women Senior National Weightlifting Championship, which concluded at Utkal Karate School here today. Lad set his first National record in snatch, lifting 160kg. In the process he erased the previous record of 152 kg, which stood in the name of Amrjit Singh Sandhu of RSPB.
Lad continued in the same vein to get his second National record with a total lift of 336kg. The previous record in total lift was 335kg. Lad achieved a grand double by claiming gold in the Inter-State cagetory as well.
Host Orissa bagged a total of nine medals, which included one gold, four silver and four bronze. The medals winners were K Ravi Kumar (1 gold, 2 silver in men`s 69kg), Minati Sethi (1 silver, 2 bronze in women`s 53kg), Ranu Mohanty (1 silver, 1 bronze in women`s 75kg) and Anup Deo Toppo (1 bronze in men`s 77kg).
